Limestone
Dimensions: Length 25cm x Width 14cm x Hight 25cm
The inherently bold properties of limestone, visually perdurable but intrinsically soft, allow for the modelling of subtle edges and curves to contrast with the intrinsic durability of a material which has recorded human experience since the dawn of time. The choice of material, the sensual and conscientious treatment of the surface to expose tactile changes, combined with shapes of universal appeal, uniquely reveal the artist’s intent to engage the viewer along a path of reflexion. INTREPID displays two distinctive yet connected shapes, espousing each other in their connectivity by allowing voids and spaces to alternatively fill with light and shadow. The fecund void stands in contrast to the subliminally phallic wall, which stands unapologetically alongside it by framing and protecting it. Both elements display clearly independent identities even though, through the subtlety of form and movement, they show how they can only exist in relation to, and as a result of, one another’s undeniable presence.
